I’ve always said that all I need is a chance and I can prove my value.
The last few weeks at work have been stressful. They weren’t stressful because of the work I was doing, though. It was stressful because I didn’t know if I was going to be headed back to the call centre in a few short weeks.
As mentioned in my previous post, I interviewed for ‘my’ role. It was a strange interview for me, because I was interviewing for the exact job that I was doing. And, I was torn. I was torn because I knew I didn’t want to go back to the call centre, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to keep doing what I was doing. Don’t get me wrong-I love my job and I am so appreciative of the opportunity, but I definitely wanted to be in a role where I was doing more ‘core’ HR work. My current role is, in my opinion, more administrative than it is core HR. But I’ll tell you one thing-I was and am determined to not go back to the call centre ever again!
Anyhow, the interview lasted about 20-25 minutes, and it was conducted by two of my colleagues. It went well. But, now wanting to put my eggs all in one basket, I applied to a few other internal roles that came up as well, including a role in compensation (Sr Compensation administrator) and a role in talent development (Sr. Learning Coordinator).
While waiting to hear back about my current role, I was invited to an interview for the Learning Coordinator role. I received an invite on a Monday to meet on the following Monday. The Outlook invite that I received indicated that the interview would be an hour long and would consist of various behavioural questions. I was thankful to have the week to prepare, as I had just a few short and hurried hours to prepare for my current role (which I got…so maybe it’s better that way..?)
I arrived at the interview location and took a few moments to breath and relax (thanks to the relax option on my Fitbit Charge 2). Thankfully my manager told me exactly where to go, as I most definitely would have taken the wrong elevator otherwise.
When I arrived, I was greeted by the hiring manager. He took me to a room where one of his colleagues was already waiting. He took the first few minutes to introduce me to his colleague as well as tell me a bit about the job. The tag team behavioural interview questions began, and I think I did quite well. It was one of the more comfortable interviews that I’ve ever been in, perhaps because I had spent to so much time preparing beforehand. I am also lucky enough to have several recruiters around me who I was able to go to for advice (well, one person in particular) and get some great tips. But it’s always encouraging when the person interviewing you is nodding and saying “yes” and agreeing with what you’re saying.
When the interview was over (it took place a week ago today) I was told that they should hopefully come to a decision by the end of next week (by the end of this week).
Well, my heart sank a bit when i saw the hiring manager’s name come across my office phone number’s call display just two days later??
After I said hello and we shared a few niceities, I heard him say “I have some exciting news to share with you…”
I got the job! I will soon be a sr learning coordinator with the talent development team!
This was literally a weight off of my shoulders, and I’m so glad that it didn’t take nearly 2 weeks to find out that I got the role.
The role itself is also a secondment/contract, but the contract length is until February of 2019, so it will be a nice, long role.
I’m glad that people are seeing my work ethic and what I bring to the table and wanting to work with me. I’m really excited! I start at the end of August.
Can’t wait and see what this new and exciting chapter has in store for me..!
