New Year, New Role

Clearly it has been a while since I blogged, but I’m happy that this blog will be about something super positive.

I’ve been with the same company for 15 years now, and it is definitely where I plan to be upon retirement. This company has taken care of me and stood beside me when I was at my worst. That said, I started looking for a new role a couple of months ago.

While I really did love what I was doing, I was definitely ready for a change. Having worked a couple of coordination roles for a total of nearly 3 years, I definitely felt like I was ready to step away from coordination and into something that was not only more pointed in the direction I wanted to go with my career, but also somewhere that was a bit more mentally challenging.

After applying for a few different roles, I was finally able to land a Consultant role. The role works on many different HR related topics, including policies, programs, etc. I’ve just completed week 2 in this role, and I couldn’t be happier!

It’s always tough when you go from being the “expert” in your role to being the new kid on the block, but this role is definitely one that I see myself staying in for a while…which means I’ll hopefully become somewhat of an expert in the role, and be able to add additional value in time.

My team is small and mighty; just 4 of us, including my manager. But we’re all part of a bigger team that, from the moment I arrived, has been nothing but helpful and supportive.

Oh, and I also learned just a few days ago that I had been officially recognized for my hard work in Q1 of F19 in my previous role. It’s always an honour receiving this kind of recognition, especially when you look at the company that you’re in, and some of the amazing things the other award winners have done.

What also makes this kind of symbolic is the fact that yesterday was the 7 year anniversary of my brother donating his kidney to me. I can’t even begin to explain the freedom and flexibility this gift has given to me. I’ve achieved things that I thought were impossible given my medical condition. Having the support of my family, friends, and wonderful boyfriend has made this difficult journey all the more rewarding and fulfilling.

The hard work is never done; there is much more to look forward to in the future. There are so many other things that I want to do, see, achieve, and experience.  I simply cannot wait!

Congrats on your new job and anniversary of your kidney transplant. Unfortunately my husband had renal failure 2 months ago and is on dialysis. Hopefully will get a transplant.

      Hi Joshna,

So great to hear from you-it’s been too long!
I’m so sorry to hear that your husband had renal failure. It’s such a difficult and exhausting thing to deal with. Hopefully a kidney does become available soon. I did home dialysis for a while before my transplant. It’s a big commitment, and you have to learn how to use the machine and stuff, but it kept me in the best shape possible before my transplant.
Wishing you all the best-I’ll email you soon!

      Flo
